What are the technical requirements for my computer in order to use Quercus?

Below are the basic system and browser requirements to use Quercus. Quercus is the State Center Community College District’s name for our Learning Management Engine which is powered by Canvas. Information on Quercus supported browsers can be found here:

Fresno City College recommends only accessing Quercus using the latest two release versions of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. While the Canvas/Quercus support page linked above lists other compatible browsers, the webinar platform in conjunction with Quercus does not support the following browsers:  Internet Explorer; Microsoft Edge; Safari. There are known issues with these browsers and Fresno City College strongly advises against using them.

Quercus should ideally be accessed from a laptop or desktop computer. Quercus can be accessed as well by downloading the Canvas Student app which is available on mobile devices and tablets through the Apple and Google app stores; however, the app is not the full version of the platform and cannot be used to access webinars. While much can be done with Chromebooks, tablets, smartphones, and other mobile devices, they are not guaranteed to support all course related software requirements. Whenever possible, we advise accessing the web-based version of Quercus from a supported browser.

Internet Speed

Quercus has been carefully crafted to accommodate low bandwidth environments, but the minimum internet speed is 512kbps

 Recommended Accessories

Online and Hybrid courses will have synchronous (live) online meetings using Zoom. While many computers are equipped with a camera, speakers, and a microphone, using headphones with an attached microphone and a webcam for these sessions is recommended.
